Alderman: Lincoln Park Scare Over Shots Fired Was Couple 'Testing' Gun On Rooftop
(CBS) -- A report of shots fired atop a Lincoln Park high rise drew a large police response Sunday afternoon, but no immediate arrests.
The local alderman says police tell him the scare may have been caused by a man and woman "testing a gun" on the rooftop.
"Police share that this is an isolated incident, and no injuries have been reported," Ward 44 Ald. Tom Tunney said in a Facebook posting.
Police say they received a call about shots fired from a roof in the 2700 block of North Pine Grove around 3 p.m. The building, at 2748 N. Pine Grove, was locked down, and no one was allowed in or out. After searching the entire building, no shooter was found and police left the scene by 5 p.m.
A SWAT team was sent to the scene out of an "abundance of caution," Chicago Police News Affairs said.
Tunney said police were reviewing surveillance video as they worked the theory that a couple was shooting on the roof to test a gun. News Affairs was not able to confirm the information but said the gunfire was believed to be an isolated incident.
"I heard maybe about five shots," local Sam McIntire told reporters. "It sounded like more but I could tell some of them were echoes and then there was a 10-second pause and about five more."
"I've been here almost decade now and never seen cops like this and never heard gunshots," Chris Woody said.
