Police Investigate Possible Robbery, Missing Clerk At Elmhurst Gas Station
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Elmhurst police have been investigating the mysterious disappearance of a gas station clerk who might have been the victim of an early-morning robbery.
Yellow police tape blocked the Shell gas station at the intersection of Route 64 and Route 83 in Elmhurst, after police were called for a well-being check at 5 a.m.
There was no sign of the clerk who was supposed to be working there at the time, but police say surveillance video shows a man between the ages of 18 and 28 entering the store, jumping over the counter and taking an unknown amount of money. The suspect and the clerk were then seen leaving the building shortly later.
Police are investigating the incident as a robbery with a missing employee, who police identified as 21-year-old Simone Boyd.
Boyd is described as 5'0", 170 pounds with long black hair possibly in a pony tail and last seen wearing a green short sleeve polo shirt with black pants.
Officers spent more than four hours collecting evidence in and around the station. It appeared investigators were collecting discarded cigarettes, possibly in an attempt to collect DNA evidence.
Deborah Jones' 25-year-old daughter applied to work at the gas station last week.
"I've worked in gas stations for many years and you shouldn't be by yourself at night time, especially overnights," Jones said.
