Police Interrupt Home Invasion; 4 Held

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The old expression, "timing is everything," was proven true early Monday morning, when police stopped a home invasion in progress on the city's South Side.
Acting on a tip, police responded about 4 a.m. to a home invasion in progress in the 5700 block of South Wentworth Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
When police arrived at the scene they found the door to the apartment slightly open, Greer said. Upon entering the saw two masked gunmen and five people tied up in the kitchen.
The two masked men surrendered to police as two other male suspects escaped the apartment, according to Greer. The two suspects who fled the residence were caught a short time later.
Two weapons were recovered at the scene, according to Greer.
Two of the suspects were taken to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center and another was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, Greer said. All were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
None of the victims of the home invasion were injured, according to Greer.
Narcotics were initially believed to have been a possible motive in the home invasion, Greer said. However, no drugs were found on scene.
Charges are pending against the four suspects, Greer said.
