Police: Father Allegedly Grabbed Infant Son's Knee Until It Made 'Popping Noise'
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Northwest Side man has been charged after he allegedly pulled his crying 4-month-old son's knee until it made a "popping noise," police said Sunday.
Manuel A. Lopez, 20, faces two felony counts of aggravated battery of a child and is scheduled to appear in bond court on Monday, according to a statement from police News Affairs.
Police took Lopez into custody after officials at Lurie Children's Hospital reported his son had multiple bone fractures Saturday morning, police said.
Lopez, of the 4900 block of West Oakdale Avenue, told police his son would not stop crying on Friday and he became frustrated, police said. That's when Lopez allegedly grabbed his son's knee and pushed it downwards until it made a "popping noise," police said.
But the baby began crying more, police said, and Lopez allegedly took his son's ankle or foot and pulled it until a similar noise was made. Lopez allegedly defended himself by saying he used these actions as a disciplinary measures, which he has used at least four times in the past month, police said.
