Police: Fatal Crash Closes Inbound Dan Ryan
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The driver of a dump truck was killed when it collided with a car on the Dan Ryan Expressway Friday afternoon on the South Side -- closing inbound lanes for the evening rush.
The crash happened on the inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) near 91st Street about 2 p.m., according to Illinois State Police.
The chain of events began when the driver of a car clipped the front of the semi, sending the truck crashing into the concrete median on the shoulder, state police said. The dump truck driver was ejected from the vehicle, before the truck careened across the interstate and crashed into the center median.
The truck's driver, identified as 56-year-old Alfredo Valladares Sr. of the 5500 block of South Fairfield Avenue, was dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
The other driver was not injured, state police said.
All inbound lanes were closed for cleanup until about 6:30 p.m., state police said.
