Police: Drunken Man Steals Excavator, Knocks Down Power Lines In Oswego
An excavator wasn't the best choice for getting home Thursday night, but as police said, the man at the controls shouldn't have been driving at all, even if the excavator wasn't stolen.
Around midnight, police in southwest suburban Oswego received a call about an excavator driving down Treasure Drive near Harvey Road, and knocking down power lines.
An officer spotted the excavator near Treasure and Blue Ridge drives, and ordered the driver to stop.
After the man fell out of the excavator, officers questioned him, and learned he had stolen it from a construction site about a mile away. He allegedly told officers he was "tired of walking, and needed some wheels."
The man tested at three times the legal limit for drunk driving, and was charged with theft, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident.
