Police: Drunken Driver Hits County Officer's Squad Car
(STMW) -- A Barrington man with a history of DUI convictions was intoxicated when he rear-ended a Lake County Sheriff's office squad car Thursday night in north suburban Grayslake, police allege.
A sergeant with the sheriff's office was stopped at Route 83 and Winchester Road about 8 p.m. when a gray 1999 Subaru Outback rear-ended the squad car, the sheriff's office said in a release.
The driver of the Subaru -- identified as 39-year-old Pedro Navarrette -- was charged with two felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence, the release said.
He was also charged with a felony count of driving on a revoked license, police said. He was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The sergeant was treated and released from Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for non-life-threatening injuries, release said. Navarrete was not hurt.
Navarrete, of the 600 block of Prospect Avenue in Barrington, has three prior DUI convictions, police said. He was ordered held on $50,000 bond and will next appear in court Dec. 30.
