Police: Drunk Driver Hit Squad Car While Trying To Escape Gunshots In Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ill. (CBS) -- A Montgomery police officer was hurt early Saturday morning, as a party broke up when shots were fired.
As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, Montgomery police say people at a house party in the 700 block of Oakton Avenue in the Kane County town were scrambling to get away when somebody started shooting.
A Montgomery officer, according to police, was hit in his squad car by one of the people trying to get away.
The officer – midnight patrol Sgt. Adam Kuncl – was initially in serious condition, but later stabilized.
Police say the driver that hit the squad car – Kendall Collier, 18, of the 100 block of Linden Drive in Oswego – was drunk. He was also hurt, and was treated and released into police custody.
Collier now stands charged with aggravated driving under the influence.
Nobody was hurt in the shooting that made the party guests scatter, but police say they did recover the weapon used in the incident and are looking for the gunman, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
