Police: Crystal Lake Man Dead After House Fire
CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (STMW) -- Police are investigating the death of a northwest suburban Crystal Lake man who died after a fire in his home Sunday morning.
Crystal Lake police were dispatched to the house in the 1700 block of Moorland Lane at about 7:33 a.m. after a McHenry County Sheriff's Department deputy reported "suspicious circumstances" at the location, police said.
Crystal Lake police officers entered the home after they saw smoke inside and a man lying on the floor, although the heat and dense smoke inside prevented them from reaching the man, police said.
Crystal Lake Fire Rescue responded to the scene a short time later to remove the man from the house and attempt to revive him. The man was taken to Centegra Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A fire in the home's basement was extinguished a short time after firefighters arrived on the scene, police said.
According to police, the man has been identified, but his identity is not being released pending notification of family members.
Crystal Lake Police Commander Dan Dziewior said the sheriff's deputy was near the house as part of a separate investigation and called Crystal Lake police for backup upon noticing signs of a fire.
Sheriff's police were on their way to respond to an unrelated call at a nearby address when they noticed signs of the fire and notified Crystal Lake police, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
No further information was available as of Sunday afternoon.
