Police Bust $5 Million Cannabis Operation In Joliet
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A police intelligence operation resulted in the discovery of a $5 million cannabis farming operation inside two Joliet homes, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced Friday.
Two Chicagoans, Sinh Tran Dinh, 50, of the 6000 block of North Winchester, and Ha Tran Pham, 43, of the 5300 block of West Winnona, were charged with felonies in connection with the operation, Dart said in a news release.
Based on information gathered from earlier arrests, Cook County Sheriff's officers were able to identify two major farming operations in Joliet, located on the 3500 block of Indian Head Lane and the 4700 block of W. Mallard Lane.
Cook County and Will County Sheriff's officers found approximately 540 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $3,758,000 at the Indian Head Lane address. At the home on Mallard Lane, police seized approximately 200 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of $1,392,000
Each house contained an elaborate system dedicated to the long-term development of cannabis. The homes were retrofitted and re-designed specifically for the manufacture of cannabis, with the plants grown in the basemen. Venting ran up through the floor boards through the chimneys.
Sinh Tran Dinh and Ha Tran Pham's next court date is June 7th in Will County
