Police: Burglary Suspect Found Hiding In Basement Of Elgin Home
(STMW) -- A northwest suburban man has been charged with burglary after police say they found him hiding in the basement of an Elgin home with several of the homeowner's possessions Friday morning.
A man called 911 about 7:50 a.m. after he heard footsteps coming from the second floor of his house in the 200 block of Vincent Place, according to a statement from Elgin police. When he heard the footsteps, he immediately left the house and called police from his neighbor's home.
Officers set up a perimeter around the house and then began to search the interior, police said. They found 22-year-old Jahashi Hutton hiding in the basement with several of the homeowner's belongings in his possession.
Hutton, who lives in the 0-100 block of Buckskin Lane in Streamwood, was charged with a felony count of residential burglary and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, police said. He was on parole at the time of his arrest and is being held at the Kane County Jail pending a bond hearing Saturday.
