Police: Mom Suffocated Baby In Lakeview
UPDATED 2/8/11 12:37 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) - An 8-month-old baby boy is dead, and police say his mother suffocated him inside their Lakeview home.
Police responded to a 911 call from the baby's father Monday night.
The woman had called her husband to say she "did something to the baby" and "it is too late," police said. In response, firefighters forced their way into the home at 7:45 p.m. in the 3900 block of North Ashland Avenue, officials said.
Police found the baby unresponsive, authorities said.

Two ambulances already on the scene took the infant and woman to nearby Thorek Memorial Hospital, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
The baby -- identified as Colin Thies-Keogh by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office -- was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m. Monday at the hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for later Tuesday.
The mother, whom sources said was about 30 years old, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Fire Department officials said.
Police say the father told them the baby's mother was suffering from postpartum depression.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is investigating an allegation of death by abuse against the mother, spokesman Kendall Marlowe said Tuesday. The agency has had no prior contact with the family and there are no other children in the home, he said.
It has not been learned if the woman is in police custody, or when she might be charged.
