Blue Line Station Reopens After Suspicious Package Found

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Blue line subway stop at Jackson Boulevard and the pedestrian tunnel that connects to the Red Line have reopened Wednesday afternoon, more than two hours after they were closed due to a suspicious package.
The Chicago Transit Authority said that normal operations resumed shortly after 3:30 p.m. after the scene was secured – more than 2 ½ hours after they were closed to passengers due to a suspicious package at the station.
The incident started shortly before 1 p.m. when the Jackson station and the tunnel were closed for a suspicious package. While police were investigating the scene, both northbound and southbound trains were bypassing the Blue Line station at Jackson, beneath Dearborn street.
The suspicious package turned out to be harmless and CTA service was allowed to resume at the station.
Police originally said that a bomb threat was the cause of the closures, but later said there was no bomb threat, only a suspicious package.
