Police: 2 Flashers Targeting Young Girls On Southwest Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police are warning families on the Southwest Side about flashers targeting children on both a residential side street and a major thoroughfare.
A community alert issued Monday said two men have been seen on "several" occasions pulling down their pants and exposing themselves to young girls between Feb. 20 and April 16.
They were spotted between 8 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. in the 4900 to 5100 blocks of South Western and Washtenaw Avenues, and are be targeting children walking to and from school, the alert said. Western Avenue is a major commercial thoroughfare, while Washtenaw Avenue is a quiet side street three city blocks to the west.
One man is described as Hispanic, 40 to 43 years old, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 of an average build, the alert said. He has scars on both cheeks and at least one lazy eye and is driving a beige minivan.
The second suspect is described as white, 43 to 50 years old, about 5-foot-7 with a thin build, black hair and black goatee, the alert said. He was wearing a black cap and red shoes.
Police urge parents not to let children walk alone and secure safe havens along kids' routes to school, such as businesses or homes of trusted neighbors.
