Police: 14-Year-Old Dead, 12 Others Hurt In Overnight Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) - A 14-year-old boy is dead and 12 others were wounded in separate shootings Friday night into early Saturday, police said.

At 8:58 p.m., the teenager -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Alejandro Jamie, 14, of the 2900 block of West Pershing Road -- suffered a gunshot wound to the back in the 2600 block of West 35th Place.

He was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, the medical examiner's office said.

At least 12 other people were wounded in shootings on the South Side Friday night.

Three people were wounded in a possible drive-by shooting at 9:58 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said. The 19-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach, and paramedics took her in serious condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

In the same attack, a 26-year-old man was shot in the arm and the leg, and he was taken to Stroger in good condition, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. A 23-year-old woman was shot in the arm and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition, he said.

In a separate shooting at 8:37 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in the hip in the 600 block of East 79th Street, police said. Paramedics took the man in "stable" condition to Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

At 10:05 p.m., another man, 27, was shot in the 3200 block of North Keeler Avenue in an apparent drive-by shooting, police said. He was shot in the groin and arm and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in "stable" condition.

A man in his 20s was shot in the arm at 11:06 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Drexel Avenue, police said. He took himself to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and his injury was not life-threatening.

Five people were wounded in one attack when a shooter opened fire at 2:28 a.m. at a group gathered on a porch for a birthday party in the 11600 block of South Peoria Avenue and opened fire at 2:28 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

The most seriously injured was 32-year-old man who was shot in the head and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. Two other men and a woman were also taken to area hospitals, while a second woman was grazed in the back and refused medical attention.

In the most recent shooting, a male was shot in the head at 2:42 a.m. in the 2900 block of North Kedzie Avenue, police said. His condition was not yet known.

No one was in custody for any of the shootings as of early Saturday.
