Police: 1 Dead In Car Accident On West Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman died after a car ran a red light and T-boned her car Saturday morning in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said.
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, drove a white Pontiac Grand Prix north on Homan Avenue and was crossing Douglas Boulevard sometime before 5:26 a.m., said police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez.
A gray Chevy Monte Carlo travelling east on Douglas ran a red light and struck the woman's car, Perez said.
Paramedics took the woman to Saint Anthony Hospital, where she died at 6:03 a.m., Perez said.
The driver of the Chevy Monte Carlo ran off after the accident, Perez said, but an injured passenger inside the car stayed at the scene.
The passenger—described as a woman in her 30s—had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken in "stable" condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Perez said.
Detectives said the passenger was uncooperative as they tried gathering details about the driver, who police continued to search for Saturday morning, Perez said.
The Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents Investigation Unit was dispatched to the scene of the accident.
