1 Dead, 2 Hurt In Rollover Crash On Lake Shore Drive
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and two other people were hurt in a rollover crash Friday morning on Lake Shore Drive on the North Side.
Rescue crews responded to the crash about 5 a.m. in the 5000 block of North Lake Shore Drive, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight said.
The vehicle was heading south when it struck the median, and then flipped over into the northbound lanes of traffic, police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.
The driver, a 24-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the fatality, but was not releasing his name Friday morning pending notification of relatives.
Two passengers, a 33-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, were both taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in "stable" condition, Sedevic said.
The northbound Lanes of Lake Shore Drive were closed at Wilson Avenue for roughly four hours while authorities investigated.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is looking into the cause of the crash.
