Man Killed In Lawndale Had Criminal History, Siblings Killed By Violence
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man who was fatally shot in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood early Saturday -- who also had an extensive criminal record -- was the last of his mother's four children to be killed in acts of violence in Chicago, police and sources said.
Ronnie Chambers, 33, was shot in the head while he was sitting with another man -- who was also wounded -- in a parked vehicle about 2:15 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Mozart Street, police said.
Chambers, whose home address is not yet known, died at the scene, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The 21-year-old man who was in the vehicle with him was taken in "stable" condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to the left shoulder and buttocks, police said.
Chambers' three other siblings also have died in acts of violence in Chicago, sources said.
Chambers himself had an extensive criminal record, sources said. He was a convicted felon and affiliated with the Gangster Disciples street gang, a source said.
He has been arrested 29 times and convicted four times -- three times for felonies and once for a misdemeanor.
His first felony conviction came in 1997 for possession of a controlled substance; his second came in 2001 for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and his third felony conviction was in 2004, for manufacture and delivery of cannabis.
His most recent conviction was for an unspecified misdemeanor offense in 2012, a source said.
Area North detectives are investigating.
