Playoff Loss Overshadows 'Good Year'
The sense of disappointment is actually a good thing when you think about it. It means that the expectations weren't met. And the expectations for the 2010 season went from six wins to a Super Bowl win.
Back in August, if you would have told Chicago Bears' fans that the team would win a playoff game they would have been ecstatic. But the expectations for the team changed when they started to win games in bunches over the second half of the season.
"We had bigger goals," Bears' defensive end Julius Peppers said. "I mean it was a good year. I'm not taking [away] anything that we accomplished."
Fans and members of the media weren't anticipating this to be a productive year for the Bears. With holes on the offensive line, defensive backfield and receiving corps, to name a few, most didn't see the 2010 season turning out like it did.
"We won the division, had 10 wins, we did a lot of great things," Peppers said. "[Devin Hester] broke the record. So it's a lot of things that we can look at and be proud of. But, at the end of the day the main thing we wanted to accomplish, we just came up a little short."
The season may have ended short of what people had expected, but it also lasted a lot longer than many outside of Halas Hall thought was possible. And one thing is for sure, the expectations for next season will be way beyond six wins.
