Planetarium To Honor Anniversary Of Apollo 17
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three Apollo program astronauts will have their footprints set into concrete on Tuesday at the Adler Planetarium, in a ceremony to honor veterans of the final moon landing.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports the ceremony will mark the 40th anniversary of Apollo 17. It was NASA's 11th and final manned flight to the moon.
Apollo 17 astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan will be at the Planetarium, along with Apollo 13 astronaut Jim Lovell.
Cernan was the commander of the mission. Schmitt piloted Apollo 17's lunar module. They spent three days on the surface of the moon in December 1972.
Cernan was the last man to leave his footprints on the lunar surface. Casts of their footprints will be displayed at the Planetarium.
