Suburban Chicago man arrested in Georgia in connection with Will County gunfight
CHICAGO (CBS) — An Illinois man was arrested in Georgia for his alleged involvement in a gunfight in southwest suburban Will County earlier this month.
Dylan Debolt, 19, of Plainfield, was arreted on Friday by members of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office's SWAT team.
Authorities said the shooting happened on April 2. Debolt fled the area after the gun battle and was later found to be living in Fayette County, Georgia.
Crest Hill, Illinois Police Chief Ed Clark confirmed the shooting Debolt was wanted for took place on April 2 near Merichka's Restaurant, at 604 Theodore St., on the borderline between Crest Hill and Joliet. Clark said police were still looking for information on a second person involved in the shooting on the Crest Hill side of the street.
The exchange of gunfire left broken glass and bullet holes in the windows of the restaurant that's been owned and operated by the same family since 1933.
No one was reported injured in the shootout.
A member of the family who owns the restaurant said two groups of people were shooting at each other from across the street and town line.
Joliet police said they found spent shell casings in a strip mall parking lot where two businesses, Envisions Salon and Ascendant Iron, were also damaged by several rounds of gunfire. Two cars in a parking lot were also hit.
He faces charges, including aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and reckless discharge of a firearm.
Debolt is being held in the Fayette County Jail while he awaits his extradition to Illinois.
