UPDATED 05/17/11 4:50 p.m.
PLAINFIELD (CBS) -- Will County Sheriff's Police have surrounded a home in the Plainfield area because they say a man inside may be armed.
Will County Sheriff's Office Spokesman Ken Kaupas tells Newsradio 780's Steve Miller that homes in the area were evacuated.
It was a call to 911 from the university police officer's concerned wife that brought in authorities, says Kaupas.
Kaupas says three schools were told to keep students inside. Those schools located near the home - on Lakeridge Street in the Lakewood Falls subdivision in the Plainfield area.
Kaupas says by 2 p.m., the situation was under control.
He says no shots were fired and the man was not arrested but was taken to a hospital's mental health unit to be evaluated.
Kaupas says the man is a police officer at a university located in Chicago.
