Pilot From Chicago Area Injured In South Bend, Ind. Crash
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (CBS) – A single-engine airplane that started its journey near Chicago crashed Monday afternoon as it attempted to land at the South Bend Airport, injuring the pilot.
The pilot was hospitalized for a broken leg, a spokesman said. No one else was aboard.
The Cirrus aircraft that crashed was rented from Chicago Executive Airport in northwest suburban Wheeling, South Bend police said. Rescue vehicles were on the scene within minutes of the accident, which occurred about noon.
Federal aviation officials were investigating.
