Pierzynski Wins First Career Silver Slugger Award
(CBS) At age 35, a career year from White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski has earned him his first career American League Silver Slugger Award.
Pierzynski joins Carlton Fisk as the only catchers in White Sox history to win the award, which is given to the best offensive performers at every position in the each league as voted on by managers and coaches.
The eighth-year White Sox catcher hit .278 with a career-high 27 home runs and 77 RBIs in 135 games this season. Among American League catchers, Pierzynski ranked first in average, runs scored, home runs, slugging percentages, OPS and total bases.
