Pierzynski Placed On D.L. For First Time In Career
(CBS) The White Sox placed A.J. Pierzynski on the disabled list Tuesday with a fractured left wrist and purchased the contract of catcher Donny Lucy from Triple-A Charlotte.
This is the first career trip to the disabled list for Pierzynski, 34, who suffered the injury Friday against Kansas City when he was hit by a pitch by Bruce Chen.
Pierzynski has been one of the hottest hitters on the team over the last few months, hitting .326 in his last 74 games. Prior to the injury, he had 11 hits in his last 18 at-bats.
Rookie Tyler Flowers will start Tuesday night against the Indians and likely get most of the starts while Pierzynski sits out. Flowers filled in for the catcher Saturday and Sunday and had two hits in each game, including his first career home run.
Lucy is hitting just .158 in 40 games with the Charlotte Knights this season. He has played in 15 career games with the White Sox, going 8-for-30 with one home run and two RBIs.
