Picture Perfect Day With Highs In Upper 80s, Lake Cooling As Taste Begins
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A picture perfect summer afternoon is in store Wednesday, with just the right weather for enjoying the first day of the Taste of Chicago.
But hot air will be blowing up from the southeast in only about 24 hours, and it's time to get ready for the 90s yet again later this week.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Mary Kay Kleist says as of 11:20 a.m., the temperature was 84 at O'Hare International Airport, 83 at Midway, 82 at the Chicago lakefront, and 79 at Waukegan.
The wind was from the south at 9 mph, but will later turn east and bring a lake cooling effect.
A high-pressure system now over the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is sending cool air in a loop over the Lake Michigan. But since the water in Lake Michigan is already 74 degrees, the cooling effect won't be dramatic.
The high for the day is 88 degrees. Lakefront areas should stay in the 80s, while the western suburbs could see 90.
After an overnight low of 68, the high pressure will move east through the Ohio Valley, and heat from the southwest will blow in.
With the heat present, the high for Thursday climbs to 90, Friday 89, Saturday 99 with a 20 percent chance of rain, Sunday 87, Monday 90 and Tuesday.
