Pickup Truck Falls In Sinkhole On South Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One person had to be extricated from a pickup truck after it fell into a sinkhole that formed on the South Side Thursday night, authorities said.
Authorities received a call on the sinkhole forming in the 9500 block of South Commercial Avenue at 8:06 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.
Two people were inside a pickup truck that fell into the hole that formed on the eastbound lanes of 95th Street, police said.
One person in the truck had to be extricated by Chicago Fire Department officials. Neither of the people in the vehicle were injured, authorities said.
Traffic in the area was being rerouted as 95th Street was closed in both directions, police said.
Zala said the sinkhole may have formed due to a water main break.
Chicago Department of Transportation officials were investigating, police said.
