Petition Calls For City To Reverse Ordinance And Hold Stray Animals For 5 Days Instead Of 3
(CBS) -- There's an online petition drive to get the city of Chicago to reverse an ordinance approved last fall - and go back to holding stray animals for five days instead of just three.
So far the petition has more than 10,000 signatures.

"Based on your work schedule, you may not even be able to make it down to Animal Care and Control in three days to see if your lost dog is there."
And she says her fear is that more dogs will be euthanized.
Chicago Animal Care and Control says the new ordinance does not mean that animals are euthanized sooner because there's still a five-day hold on strays before dogs or cats can be euthanized.
The new ordinance, they say, just means more strays will end up at rescue organizations sooner.
But the people who are fighting to scrap the ordinance say if strays are transferred sooner to one of several rescue groups, it just makes it that much harder for the owner to find them.
