PETA Urges Tough Prosecution Of Alleged Teen Kitten Killer
The People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it is urging prosecutors in Indiana to come down hard on the 17-year-old East Chicago teen who is facing charges of cruelty to animals.
"Animal abusers are often repeat offenders who pose a serious threat to animals and people," said Whitney Calk of PETA.
The teen reportedly impaled the kittens through their heads and bodies with arrows and then posted photos of himself with them on Facebook. The suspect told police he hunted the kittens because he was bored.
Calk says studies show a correlation between violence to animals and violence to humans.
"Many of our nation's serial killers and school shooters abuse animals before victimizing humans," said Calk.
She says they also sent a package of "Abuse: Report It If You See It" posters to schools in East Chicago in hopes of preventing future similar incidences.
