Personnel Decisions Loom For Hahn, White Sox
(CBS) In his first full week as White Sox general manager, Rick Hahn will have to make key financial decisions that will have a big impact on how the future of the team is shaped.
Jake Peavy, Kevin Youkilis and Brett Myers all have options the team could pick up for 2013, although it appears unlikely the team will go in that direction. The White Sox can't afford Peavy's $22 million option and can buy it out for $4 million. He has expressed interest in coming back to the White Sox, but would have to re-sign for a lot less money.
All three players will become free agents if their options are not picked up.
Meanwhile, catcher A.J. Pierzynski, pitcher Francisco Liriano, outfielder Dewayne Wise, infielders Orlando Hudson and Jose Lopez, and reliever Brian Bruney are all headed to free agency.
The White Sox have an exclusive negotiating window with those players through Friday.
