Person Struck, Killed By Metra Train In Lombard
LOMBARD, Ill. (CBS) -- Police in west suburban Lombard are investigating after a person was struck and killed by a freight train.
The accident happened just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, between the Glen Ellyn and Lombard stations. The Union Pacific train hit the pedestrian about 50 yards east of Finley Road, railroad spokesman Mark Davis said.
The train was carrying freight from Chicago to North Platte, Neb.
Union Pacific West line Metra trains were stopped until the scene was cleared, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. Metra says the morning commute will not be affected.
Davis said peer support and counseling would be provided for the train crew.
Lombard police had no additional details.
