Driver Shot On Bishop Ford Freeway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A driver was shot Monday morning on the Bishop Ford Freeway near Lake Calumet, five miles from the Indiana state line.
Illinois State Police said the victim was headed north on Interstate 94 at 115th Street shortly after 11 a.m. when he was shot. He drove himself to a Chicago Police station and was taken to a local hospital.
All southbound lanes of I-94 at 103rd Street were shut down shortly before 2 p.m. and were reopened around 3:30 p.m.
No further information was immediately available.
Last July at the same spot a 10-month-old girl was shot in the back seat of her family's car. Ny'ori Askew was taken to the hospital in critical condition that day. The family is not sure if they were the target or whether it was a random shooting.
The stretch of the high is just feet from a wide open retail parking lot.
Monday's shooting comes after a violent couple of days on roadways. Friday afternoon a man was shot on the inbound Eisenhower Expressway near Canal Street. He was hospitalized and died of his injuries.
One day before that, early Thursday morning, the express lanes of the Dan Ryan were closed at 32nd Street because of a shooting there. A gun and several shell casings were recovered. No injuries were reported related to that case, but two people were taken into custody.
This spike comes at a time when carjackings are on the rise. There were several reports of new casesMonday alone.
