Person Shot By Off-Duty Cop At Fermilab
BATAVIA, Ill. (STMW) -- A traffic chase between an off-duty police officer and a car involved in a hit-and-run accident in the west suburbs Saturday ended on Fermilab property when the officer opened fire on the car, striking someone in the backseat.
According to the DuPage County Sheriff's office, an off-duty police officer reportedly witnessed a hit-and-run accident in the area of Route 59 and Dale in West Chicago on Saturday. The off-duty officer followed the offending vehicle while in a personal vehicle.
While on the Fermilab property, an encounter ensued where the off-duty officer exited the vehicle and confronted the occupants of the other vehicle, and fired shots at the other vehicle by the officer, according to the sheriff's office.
One of the occupants in the backseat of the car was struck by one round fired from the officer and was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
The sheriff's office was not releasing any additional information as of Sunday morning.
