Person Of Interest Held In Shooting That Killed 1 Teen, Injured Another
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A person of interest is under questioning in a shooting that left a 13-year-old boy dead and a 16-year-old boy wounded in the Marquette Park neighborhood.
One person was taken into custody shortly after midnight Thursday in the 3700 block of South King Drive, several miles away from the area where the crime occurred, police said. No charges had been filed as of 9:15 a.m.
The shooting happened around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 6200 block of South Sacramento Avenue, police said. 13-year-old boy was fatally shot in the chest, while a 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest and left side.
The younger boy, Rich Gutierrez, of the 6100 block of South Francisco Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. The boy apparently suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to confirm the cause of death.
The other teen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "extremely critical" condition, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.
Both teens were walking on the street when two people approached them. One person took out a handgun and fired, striking both of the teens, police said.
The shooting may be gang-related, according to police.
