Person Falls Onto Tracks At Division Street Blue Line Stop
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A part of the busy Blue Line subway was briefly shut down Wednesday morning, after a person was found on the tracks.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the person was brought up from the subway portal at Division Street in a Stokes rescue basket shortly after 6 a.m.
The person was found between tracks at the subway stop, located in the West Town neighborhood. Chicago Transit Authority spokeswoman Kim Myles said the person fell onto the tracks from the southeast-bound platform around 6 a.m.
The person did not make contact with a train or with the electrified third rail and was taken to an area hospital.
The person was taken to an area hospital in an unknown condition, with a reported leg injury. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening, Habermehl reported.
Power to the inbound tracks was shut off for about 16 minutes as crews responded, causing minor delays, but service was back to normal by 6:50 a.m., Myles said.
Dispatch reports indicate the person who fell onto the tracks was an intoxicated man.
By around 6:15 a.m., police and fire crews were out of the subway station, but the busy triangle intersection of Milwaukee and Ashland avenues and Division Street was tied up.
Traffic was briefly restricted on northbound Ashland Avenue, as rescue crews took the victim away in an ambulance.
