Man Critically Wounded In Police Involved Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) - The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating a police shooting that left one man in critical condition in the South Austin neighborhood.
At 8 p.m., police officers responded to a call of a person with a gun in the 5300 block of West Van Buren Street, according to a release from police News Affairs. The officers heard gunshots and saw a male.
When officers attempted to question him, the man turned and pointed a weapon at them, according to the release. An officer opened fire and struck the gunman.

The suspect was in his 20s, police said.
He was taken in serious to critical condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County at 8:28 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.
There were no other injuries, according to the release. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
The Independent Police Review Authority responded to the scene and are investigating, said IPRA spokesman Mark Smith.
