Pedestrian Struck By Car, Critically Injured In Arlington Heights
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (STMW) - A 22-year-old man walking on the road was critically injured early Saturday when he was struck by a car in northwest suburban Arlington Heights.
About 3:40 a.m. Saturday, a 37-year-old Palatine man was on his way to work, driving his 2012 Kia Soul east on Palatine Road frontage from Kennicott, a release from Arlington Heights police said.
At the same time, a 22-year-old man from Crystal Lake was walking in the eastbound lanes of frontage road when he was struck by the Kia. The impact propelled the pedestrian more than 75 feet forward into the eastbound express lanes, the release said. The pedestrian was unconscious when found by first responders and therefore unable to explain why he was walking in the roadway, according to police. There is no designated pedestrian crosswalk or overhead street lamp in the immediate area.
The driver of the Kia called 911 to report striking the pedestrian, according to the release.
Arlington Heights Fire Department paramedics stabilized the pedestrian and transported him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge because of traumatic injuries received in the collision. The Palatine Fire Department sent a mutual aid ambulance to the scene for the driver who was injured after his windshield shattered upon impact. He was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he was treated and released.
As of about 9 a.m. Saturday the pedestrian was in critical condition at Lutheran General Hospital, police said.
An Arlington Heights Police Accident Reconstructionist has been assigned to conduct an in-depth investigation. The use of alcohol by the driver has been ruled out. At this point, there are no known independent witnesses to the crash.

No traffic citations or criminal charges are pending at this time. This incident remains under investigation.
