CHICAGO (STMW) - A male nearly avoided being struck by a Downtown Blue Line train Friday night.
A southbound Blue Line train struck an unauthorized person on the tracks at the Washington station at 9:53 p.m., CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said.
The male fell onto the Blue Line tracks at 19 N. Dearborn St. and apparently rolled towards the platform as a train approached, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
He became stuck between the train and the platform, and fire department personnel had to remove him, Langford said.
At 10:15 p.m., paramedics were taking him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with shock and an injured hand, Langford said. However, he did not appear to be directly struck by the train and his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Power was initially shut off in both directions. Normal service was restored around midnight.
It was not immediately known why the person was on the tracks.
