Pedestrian Killed By Metra Train In Apparent Suicide
BARTLETT, Ill. (STMW) - A person who was struck and killed by a Metra train Monday morning near the northwest suburban Bartlett station apparently committed suicide.
Metra Train No. 2200 fatally struck a pedestrian near the Bartlett station on the Milwaukee / West Line about 4:30 a.m., according to the spokesperson. The train, which was scheduled to arrive at Union Station in Chicago at 5:30 a.m., was stopped west of the station.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has been notified of the death.
The incident appears to have been a suicide, according to a source.
The station is located at 120 E. Railroad Ave. in Bartlett, according to the Metra website.
Trains in both directions on the Milwaukee / West Line were running 10 to 20 minutes behind schedule as trains were operating on a single-track at the station, according to the spokesperson.
Metra riders on the train were transferred to Train No. 2202, which is operating about 18 minutes behind schedule, the spokesperson said.
Bartllett police declined to comment Monday morning.
