Pedestrian Hit, Reportedly Killed By Metra Train In Hanover Park
HANOVER PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- A Metra train struck and reportedly killed a pedestrian early Monday in Hanover Park, in an incident that shut down the Milwaukee District/West Line.
Train No. 2208, which originated in Elgin, struck a pedestrian near the Hanover Park station about 6:40 a.m., according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.
There are reports that the person was killed, but neither Miller nor the DuPage County Coroner's office could confirm the death.
All trains were stopped in both directions, and three inbound trains behind the train involved in the incident were delayed, Miller said.
The delays are expected to extend later into the morning rush period.
A Hanover Park firefighter said his department responded to the report of a person down on the tracks, but did not have any further details.
