Boy, 11, Hit By Commuter Train In Barrington
BARRINGTON, Ill. (STMW) -A Metra train struck an 11-year-old boy Friday evening in northwest suburban Barrington.
Barrington police identified the pedestrian as an 11-year-old boy, who was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. The boy was hit while crossing the tracks at Illinois Route 59, just north of Lake Cook Road, Barrington police said.
The boy, who was "in very critical condition," is a student at Hough Street Elementary School, according to a statement from Tom Leonard, superintendent of Barrington schools.
According to the Hough Street Elementary School Facebook page, the boy is no longer in critical condition.
Anna Shilov said her husband grabbed towels from Salon Shea--the salon across from Barrington Train Station where he works--and tended to the boy after a passerby ran into the business and sought his help.
The Union Pacific Northwest train was en route to Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago when it struck a pedestrian about 6:05 p.m., Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
