Peavy's Performance Gives Reason For Optimism
CHICAGO (WSCR) On Wednesday night, Jake Peavy made his second start after 10 months of rehab as a result shoulder. In the White Sox 1-0 victory, Peavy looked every bit like a former Cy Young winner.
Peavy threw a complete-game shutout of the Cleveland Indians, the very same team that owns the best record in baseball.
"This is as healthy as I've been in Chicago," Peavy said after Wednesday night's game. "I haven't been healthy in Chicago. I got traded to be the guy you saw tonight, and I'm going to do everything I can for the next two years to be that guy."
Peavy scattered three hits over nine innings while striking out eight. And he got better as the game went on, over the game's final two innings, Peavy didn't allow a hit and racked up four strike outs.
His performance since returning to the active roster this season (15 IP, 2.40 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and a .185 BAA) should give White Sox fans reason for optimism.
But Peavy knows he's just lucky to be back on the mound.
"To have surgery that's deemed experimental," he said. "You just don't know where your career could go from that."
