Peavy: 'We're Looking At The Disabled List'

CHICAGO (CBS) White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy is likely to land back on the disabled list with a strained groin. In his last outing against the Tigers, Peavy tossed four innings and gave up six earned runs on three hits and three walks. After the start, Peavy said he felt a grabbing sensation trying to make a play at first base. With the injury, the White Sox will go back to a five-man rotation including John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Mark Buehrle, Edwin Jackson and Phil Humber.
Peavy, who opened the season on the DL trying to work back from a shoulder injury, was less than happy about having to miss more time. "I do feel quite a bit better but just saw the doctor and think we're going to have to go the conservative route," Peavy said. "Obviously I want to try to push through it and do what we needed to do. But I think we're looking at [the] Disabled List just because of the MRI results and how sore my exam just was with the doctor."
Peavy went on describing his day with doctors and White Sox brass; "I just had a nice talk with my General Manager [Kenny Williams] and the doctors. Disappointing, no doubt. I was feeling good and, like I said, I was beginning to climb with my arm. Who knows, maybe this will be a blessing in disguise [and] my arm will be stronger."
Still, it's not the worst news Peavy and the Sox could have gotten. There's plenty of time left in the season and Peavy felt confident that the injury can be rehabbed and fixed in two weeks or so. "I'm hoping [to] give it this week here and a week on the road, as far as treatment," Peavy said. I'm sure they're going to push me to go out and rehab start and I'm sure I'll push against that. I'm hoping just a few weeks."
Further changes to the White Sox are underway as well. Adam Dunn will rest a few days, per his manager's decision. Dunn, who's hitting just .176 with 80 strikeouts on the season, has never been in a slump like this before and Ozzie Guillen thinks some time away might get the slugger back to slugging.
"Right now, we tried to get him extra hitting to see if we can fix it," Guillen said. "Since Toronto (May 25-29) we've been having extra hitting with him. Doesn't work. I think we're going to try something different. Just don't hit at all and see what happens."
Guillen had previously said he can't have Dunn and Alex Rios (who will return from a similar sabbatical on Wednesday night) out of the lineup at the same time.
Mark Teahen, freshly returned from the DL, started at first base on Tuesday with Paul Konerko in the DH spot.
