Peavy: Six-Man Rotation Is 'Obviously Beneficial'
CHICAGO (WSCR) The Chicago White Sox didn't necessarily plan on going with a six-man starting rotation when they started spring training. But Phil Humber's performance filling in for an injured Jake Peavy led to them going down that route.
After making four starts since returning from 11 months of rehab for a torn lat muscle, Peavy is among those in favor of the expanded rotation.
"You have a few extra days to recover, and I think it's obviously beneficial," Peavy told Scott Merkin, of MLB.com. "You would like to think that it would pay off in the long run. Late in August and September, we would be a little more fresh, because we've had a little extra time.
"You have six deserving guys and six competing at the highest level and doing a good job. Now we've got some help in that bullpen. Things are shaking out just fine. I hope at the end of the day, it works to our advantage."
In 20 starts since beginning the six-man rotation, the White Sox have an 8-6 record with a 4.22 ERA. Those stats could improve once the struggling John Danks (0-8 with a 5.25 ERA) starts to pitch like he has in the past.
