Peavy Placed On DL; Marquez Claimed By Yankees
CHICAGO (CBS) A day after the right-hander said he was destined for the disabled list, the White Sox made the move official Wednesday and recalled Lucas Harrell from Class AAA Charlotte.
Peavy suffered a mild groin strain in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Tigers. The White Sox said Monday he would evaluated on a daily basis, but after it became apparent Peavy would miss at least two starts, they made the move to add Harrell to the team.
With Peavy out, the White Sox will go back to a five-man rotation and Harrell will be available in the bullpen.
Meanwhile, reliever Jeff Marquez was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees Wednesday. The former White Sox pitcher was designated for assignment Sunday and had to clear waivers before he could return to Charlotte. Instead, Marquez will immediately join the Yankees bullpen.
