Peavy Hoping For Rehab Start Next Week
White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy hopes to make a minor league rehab start next week.
Peavy left his last start for Double-A Birmingham on Monday after 15 pitches due to muscle tenderness and irritation in his surgically repaired right shoulder.
The right-hander said Wednesday that the problem stemmed from scar tissue. Peavy is on anti-inflammation medication and won't throw until Friday.
"It was painful, but at the same time, I'm very encouraged about the reports," Peavy said. "Just a minor setback."
An MRI exam on Tuesday found no major problems.
"Obviously, it was good news," Peavy said. "But disappointing for me, personally. I felt I wasn't far away. I was feeling so good. To feel something close to what I felt right before I blew it out at the repair site was the disturbing thing, but, when everything checks out, it's good. Very little fluid in there."
Peavy is tentatively scheduled to pitch again in the minors on April 28. It would be his fourth rehab outing.
"You don't want to take too much time off because then you lose everything you built up," Peavy said. "Just keep plugging away. Before too long I think things will turn around."
Peavy rejoined the White Sox in Florida, where the team is playing Tampa Bay, after being examined on Tuesday in Chicago.
