Peavy Cracks Top 50 Highest Paid American Athletes
CHICAGO (WSCR) When Sports Illustrated recently released their list of the Top 50 highest-earning American athletes, there was one Chicago player who cracked the list: Jake Peavy.
According to SI, Peavy's $16,500,000 salary and reporting bonus couple with $125,000 in endorsements place him at No. 42 on the list with $16,625,000 in total earnings.
The 2007 Cy Young Award winner was acquired by the White Sox during the 2009 season in a trade with San Diego Padres. In 212 starts in eight seasons with the Padres, Peavy had a 92-68 record with a 3.29 ERA. In his two plus season with the White Sox, injuries have limited him to 25 starts, a 12- 7 record and a 4.21 ERA.
Other athletes with Chicago connections on the Top 50 list are: Chicago native Dwyane Wade at No. 11 with a $14,200,000 salary and $14,000,000 in endorsements, and former Bulls draft pick Elton Brand at No. 45 with a $15,959,099 salary and $500,000 in endorsements.
Tiger Woods topped the list with $2,294,116 in winnings and $60,000,000 in endorsements.
