Peavy As Closer 'Not Out Of The Realm Of Possibility'
CHICAGO (WSCR) As Phil Humber continues to have success as a starting pitcher and Jake Peavy continues to struggle to stay healthy, the notion of moving Peavy to the team's closer may start to build some merit and some momentum among fans.
"It's predicated on two things," Joe Cowley, of the Chicago Sun-Times, said on the Danny Mac Show. "It's predication on can you get him up back-to-back and does the arm old up, and can he continue to throw strikes and not walk guys."
Peavy strike out-to-walk ratio this season (5.00) has been the best of his career. Also working in favor of the move is Peavy's mentality. As Cowley says, "his swagger" would be perfect for a closer who needs to bring a high level of intensity with each outing.

If Sergio Santos continues to struggle like he has lately (8 ER, 7BB, 12.00 ERA in last six appearances), the White Sox may begin to give the move some thought.
"Things have to workout a certain way obviously," Cowley said. "And he has to show that he can bounce back and get up in back-to-back [games] and three-straight games, to feel good about that role. Yeah, I definitely think it's not out of the realm of possibility."
