PAWS Chicago Rescues Pets From Louisiana
CHICAGO (CBS) -- PAWS Chicago arrived Friday with dozens of cats and dogs from local shelters in Louisiana.
The PAWS team left Wednesday in two vans for a 13-plus hour drive. Their mission was to alleviate overcrowding in Southern Louisiana shelters, impacted by recent flooding.
PAWS Chicago rescued pets who were either already given up by their owners or have been in the shelters prior to the flood. The shelters will now have more room for animals affected by the natural disaster.
Stacy Price, Director of Animal Operations, drove 16 hours with two trucks carrying nine dogs and 17 cats, WBBM's Mike Krauser reports.

"So many people had tears in their eyes when PAWS Chicago walked in," Price said. "A little bit like a cavalry, so they were excited to see us."
The rescued animals are currently receiving complete medical care at PAWS Chicago's Medical Center.
Sarah McDonald, with PAWS, said once the animals go through medical care they will need temporary homes.
"Really it's all thanks to our volunteers," McDonald said. "One thing we're looking for right now is fosters."
You can help PAWS Chicago by being a foster, McDonald said.
Eventually all the animals rescued from Louisiana will be available for adoption.
