Pavement Buckles On Columbus Drive In South Loop
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A huge section of pavement on Columbus Drive buckled in the afternoon heat on Wednesday in the South Loop.
Officials shut down Columbus between Balbo Avenue and Roosevelt Road, after the pavement buckled across all lanes of Columbus, about 200 yards north of Roosevelt, sometime around 3:30 p.m.
In some places, the pavement had risen two to three feet in the air after buckling amid temperatures of 100 degrees or more, although officials said it was not immediately clear if the heat caused the pavement to buckle.
Traffic on Columbus Drive was being rerouted around the buckled pavement to Lake Shore Drive.
No injuries or accidents were reported due to the incident.
